Turning off the Password Protect on Screen Saver Resume

Last week I was working away and needed to get to a file that my counterpart in the cubicle had on his computer. He, however, was gone on interviews. I couldn't get into his computer because the screen saver had kicked in and therefore it was locked. I was out of luck until he came back, an hour later.

By default on most XP pro installs, once the screen saver comes on after inactivity, you are prompted to type in your password again. When the screen saver is set to something like 5 minutes, people's computers get locked down all the time. It's a pain. You can easily fix it.

  • Right click on the desktop
  • Click on settings
  • Click on the Screen Saver tab
  • Uncheck the "On resume, password protect" box

And you're set!
